The legal part of a Civil Ceremony is actually very short, so it provides a perfect opportunity to personalise it with music or readings that mean a lot to you as a couple. As a minimum, you will need an entrance song for the bride, and an exit song for you both once you are officially married! You are also able to include a couple of songs as part of the ceremony itself - I'd recommend choosing a couple of songs or pieces of music to be performed while you sign the register, as this can sometimes take a bit of time. It's also a poignant part of the ceremony where you are actually 'making it official' so many couples use this time to choose music, songs or even poems that are specifically sentimental to them. My ceremony option covers the entirety of the service, plus up to 30 minutes before the ceremony, so I can provide entertainment as your guests arrive and get seated. You can choose any songs you like for the ceremony, however for a Civil Ceremony there can’t be any overtly religious references  (no hymns or prayers). If you're not sure about the songs you've chosen, or you're stuck for ideas, I have a list of recommended songs that will hopefully inspire you - and if you're still not sure, the registrars are very helpful when you go to your meetings in the lead up to the big day, and they will be able to point you in the right direction! For religious ceremonies, I'm happy to incorporate some more traditional hymns and prayers on request.
